The US and Iran are closing in on a deal that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, senior US officials said Sunday, even as President Donald Trump insisted he would not “rush” into an agreement.
Optimism over a deal pushed global stocks towards a record high as crude oil fell. Secretary of State Marco Rubio struck a cautiously upbeat tone, saying the US was going to give diplomacy every chance. “We thought we might have some news last night,” he told reporters in New Delhi. “Maybe today.”
