Mehta: Trump AI Order Replicates Existing AI Efforts

Aalok Mehta, Director of the Wadhwani AI Center at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, says it is unclear what President Trump’s executive order establishing voluntary federal reviews of advanced AI models will accomplish, pointing out that major AI labs already have agreements to work with the government on testing. Mehta says the order reflects a compromise between administration officials concerned about cybersecurity risks and those more receptive to industry concerns.
