House Passes GOP Funding Bill, Sets Up Senate Shutdown Showdown

The House passed a stopgap spending bill to avoid an Oct. 1 US government shutdown, setting up a showdown in the Senate later Friday, when Democrats are expected to block the legislation over demands to bolster health-care spending.
